Management & Executive Jobs in Kenya
What the work involves on the Kenyan Coast, what employers look for, and the roles open right now.
Management and executive roles are the smallest category by volume and the most consequential by impact. It covers general managers, resident managers, operations managers, deputy and assistant managers, duty managers, and the heads of department who sit on the executive committee, among them financial controllers, human resources managers and revenue managers.
Coast properties present a particular management challenge, and experience elsewhere in Kenya does not automatically transfer. Occupancy swings from near-capacity in December and January to very thin in May and June. A manager here has to staff up and down without destroying morale, hold cash through the quiet months, and keep standards steady when much of the team is seasonal. Many properties are owner-operated or family-held rather than branded chains, which means less corporate structure and far more direct accountability to an owner.
Employers want a commercial record alongside operational competence. Occupancy, average rate, RevPAR and departmental profit are the language of these conversations. Experience across departments matters more than depth in one. People management is examined closely, because turnover is expensive and the Coast hospitality community is small enough that a manager's reputation arrives before they do.
Most general manager positions expect eight or more years in hospitality with at least three at head of department level or above, and increasingly a degree or diploma in hospitality management. Prior Coast or comparable resort experience is a strong advantage.
These searches are confidential more often than not. A property replacing a general manager rarely wants that known before the appointment is made, so many of the management roles REI handles never appear on a public job board.
