About the Property

Maanzoni Lodge — the name means "the beginning" in Kamba — is a 360-room property at the foot of the Lukenya Hills, 40 to 45 minutes from Nairobi's central business district on the Nairobi-Mombasa road. It stands in dry tropical savanna grassland, which is what separates it from a hotel that happens to be outside the city.

Its character comes from where it is. The Athi plains around it carry giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and eland moving through the seasons, most visible at dawn and in the late afternoon, and Nairobi National Park is roughly 45 minutes away. That combination — genuine savanna within reach of the capital — is the property's proposition.

The architecture follows African design principles while the interiors meet contemporary expectations. Rooms have private balconies, en-suite bathrooms with heated showers, and tea and coffee. The gardens hold mature acacia that brings in hundreds of bird species, enough to make the birdwatching a reason to come rather than a bonus.

Facilities run to an outdoor pool, restaurants serving local and international menus, a 24-hour fitness centre and more than twenty conference halls and executive boardrooms — which is what allows the property to hold corporate gatherings at a scale most lodges cannot. Breakfast and WiFi are included and an airport shuttle runs for a small charge. Activities include nature walks, trekking, rock climbing and guided birdwatching, with the neighbouring Kwa Kyelu Wildlife Sanctuary adding more.
