About the Property

Starling Bird Resort is a small property inside the Maanzoni Conservancy, under 35 minutes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and about 45 kilometres from Nairobi's central business district. It is a three-and-a-half star boutique establishment in open savanna, and it trades on quiet.

Wildlife is close. The conservancy grassland around it carries giraffe, wildebeest, zebra and antelope, and the birdlife is abundant enough that the resort is named after one of them — which is the property's appeal for naturalists and birdwatchers who do not want to give up a comfortable bed to get it.

The buildings are stone with covered porches, set in maintained grounds so each room keeps some privacy. Rooms are standard singles and deluxe doubles and twins, with garden views, flat-screen televisions, a laptop workspace and WiFi.

A cooked-to-order breakfast is included and the manager's reception each day gives guests a reason to meet each other. There is an outdoor pool, a restaurant and lounge, multilingual staff and 24-hour room service, and the resort takes pets — uncommon at this level. It does not serve alcohol, which is part of why it suits families, corporate team-building groups and anyone who came for the quiet. The approach is on rural conservancy roads and is easiest in the dry season.
